US stainless steel flat-rolled surcharges fall for April

US flat-rolled nickel bearing stainless steel monthly surcharges for April fell to their lowest levels since summer 2009, while ferritic grade type 403 was at its lowest monthly price since early 2010, according to the domestic producers published prices on Monday.

North American Stainless, AK Steel and ATI Allegheny Ludlum all published their April flat-roll surcharges with Type 304 and 316 stainless steel ranges between 61.31-61.34 cents/lb and 81.98-82.02 cents/lb, respectively. These two nickel bearing grades of stainless were down from 65.06-65.23 cents/lb and 87.01-88.03 cent/lb in March for Type 304 and 316, respectively.

Surcharges for these two products were at their lowest l evels since August 2009 and have fallen in five of the last six months. April's surcharge for Type 430 stainless fell to 18.51 cents/lb -- the lowest level since February 2010 -- from 19.21-19.35 cents/lb in March.
